Thor: Love & Thunder Trailer Reveals Natalie Portman's Thor & Mjolnir

Marvel Studios releases the Thor: Love & Thunder trailer, revealing a first look at Chris Hemsworth's return and Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor.

Marvel Studios releases the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer. The fourth Thor movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees the return of Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder, with the actor reteaming with Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. Love and Thunder also features the return of many other Marvel characters, most notable being Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who hasn't appeared in an MCU movie since Thor: The Dark World. Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, who was introduced in Ragnarok, will also be back. Additionally, after the Avengers: Endgame ending left Thor with the Guardians of the Galaxy, those characters will also appear in the film.

Little has been known about the story of Thor: Love and Thunder, though Waititi has offered tidbits since the movie was announced in July 2019. He's said Love and Thunder is a more emotional movie than Ragnarok, saying it's more about love. The director has also indicated Love and Thunder will pull from Jason Aaron's Mighty Thor comics, which followed Jane Foster picking up Mjolnir and gaining Thor's powers, all while battling cancer. Still, with the MCU movie set to release in July, any information or official looks at the film are eagerly anticipated - and now the first footage is here.

The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer has officially been released by Marvel Studios. It sees the return of Hemsworth's Thor, Portman's Jane Foster and Thompson's Valkyrie. Christian Bale's villain, Gorr the God Butcher is not revealed, though he is mentioned in the movie's official synopsis. According to the Thor: Love and Thunder synopsis, Thor goes into retirement, but it's Gorr's mission to kill gods that has the God of Thunder returning to his superhero ways. Watch the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer below.

The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer seems to reveal much of the movie's story, starting with Thor traveling with the Guardians of the Galaxy before he decides to give up superhero-ing in favor of forging a path of self-reflection and self-discovery. Based on the shot of the Guardians running into battle and Thor turning his back, he may decide this in the midst of one of the Guardians' missions. From there, Thor abandons Stormbreaker and goes on his personal journey, which seems to include captaining a ship. It seems, at least for a time, Thor will go his own way with none of his former friends and allies at his side, which is rare for the God of Thunder.

Although it's not explicitly stated in the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, the synopsis revealed Thor comes out of retirement to battle Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher. Instead of Gorr, the trailer shows Zeus, known by his signature lightning bolt. Presumably, Zeus will be attacked by Gorr, possibly killed, and that will prompt Thor to gather his friends to fight the God Butcher. Joining Thor are Valkyrie, who doesn't look particularly happy as New Asgard's king; Korg, who stands with Thor in front of the skeleton of a great beast; and Jane Foster, who seems to already be in possession of Mjolnir when Thor re-encounters her. So while the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer shows plenty of what to expect from the next MCU movie, there's still the big reveal of Gorr the God Butcher, which will likely be in the next trailer.
