Former Hillcrest Standout Earns SEC Co-Pitcher Of The Week

Alabama junior pitcher Garrett McMillan earned conference honors for his performance Friday in a road win over Ole Miss.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama junior pitcher Garrett McMillan has been named Southeastern Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, following an announcement from the league office Monday.

McMillan, a standout at Hillcrest High and Shelton State Community College, earned his third win of the season on Friday in a 7-4 decision on the road at Ole Miss. Over seven innings, he allowed just one earned run on three hits, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

The start ended up being McMillan's best of the season, despite throwing 40 pitches in the first inning, before settling in and finishing his start with 112 pitches — a career high.

The win for Alabama was also part of the program's first series sweep of the Rebels since 2014 and its first sweep in Oxford since 1997.

Alabama (21-12, 7-5 SEC) will return to action Tuesday at home against Belmont.
